TRIBUTE TO ANCIENT EGYPT is an original production by Jezibell, inspired by her love of ancient Egyptian mythology. Combining her poetry, songs, and dances with a percussion background, she weaves a narrative beginning with the creation of the world by the god Atum. An unusual feature of Egyptian religion was the concept of the sky as a goddess, Nuit, whose long slim body arches over the recumbent form of her husband Geb, the god of the earth.

They were the parents of Isis and Osiris, who brought the benefits of civilization to the land of Egypt. Osiris was murdered by his brother Set, plunging the country into chaos, as described in this poem (performed with dumbek accompaniment)Chaos Is Upon Us After a long period of searching and mourning, Isis restores Osiris long enough to become pregnant with Horus, and then Osiris becomes Ruler of the Underworld. Horus grows up to fight Set and restore harmony to Egypt.

TRIBUTE was first performed in New York as part of the Gershwin Performance Series, featuring Jezibell, harp and vocals by Somna M.Bulist, and flute and vocals by Kai Mera. In Georgia Jezibell has reshaped into a one-person show which has been performed at the Friedman Library and covered in the Augusta Chronicle http:/chronicle.augusta.com/stories/060508/ric_461021.shtml/

Next performance will be Monday, September 8, at the Friedman Library, 1447 Jackson Road at 6:30 pm, free.
